55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
We will do a walk through of how to make a D&D Character from start to finish. By the end of class you will have a playable character that can be used in any D&D game. Character creation should take about 15-30 minutes depending on what level we will be going up to. We will start with learning what classes and races there are in the game and how to pick the right ones for your character. We will be using the fixed hp and standard array for stats. last we will finish up character creation by filling in weapons, armor and other items. For higher level characters we will go over all sub-classes and feats to help you customize your character. The left over time will be used for learning how the combat rules work by doing a practice battle, answering questions and adding more detail to characters if interested.

Parental Guidance
Roleplaying games offer a creative "sandbox" in which participants can engage in imaginative problem solving. Fantasy violence does not have to be specifically depicted, but the possibilities of this within the game will be discussed. Students may wish to explore ideas related to their characters that involve in-game "weapons" and "spells" for the use of "in-game" violence.
Sources
Students will need to have a DnDbeyond account. It is a free service that is done by the same people as Dungeons and Dragons. This site will let me share the books needed and has a dice roller function. https://www.dndbeyond.com
I will also be using a site called Roll20. This site will be screen shared to show the battle map for the practice combat. No need to make your own account for roll20.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have played D&D for many years as a Dungeon Master. These means I run the games for other players and help them create there characters. The Dungeon Masters role is to guide the players as they play. This requires knowing the rules and being able to keep the group focused on the game so that everything goes smoothly.
