Class Experience

Each week learners will cover a range of statistical topics. Each week we will explore topics through exercises, games, puzzles, quizzes and activities and as we identify the areas for improvement I will plan for subsequent weeks to cover the areas needing attention the most for all learners.

Week 1 - 2nd Sept: Types of Data, Averages - mode, mean, median and range, drawing and interpreting bar charts
Week 2- 9th Sept: Tally Charts, Two way tables and Dot Plots
Week 3 - 16th Sept: Finding the mean from Frequency Tables
Week 4- 23rd Sept: Probability, Sampling, Experimental Probability
Week 5 - 30th Sept: Scatter Graphs and Pie Charts)

Topics will include:

I invite learners to share what they already know, what they find tricky and how they see the problem. I share interactive and animated slides to teach plenty of examples to equip learners with the confidence to complete work independently as well as support each other and rapidly gain confidence. Games, puzzles and quizzes are purposeful tasks which I like to include as well as looking at misconceptions and exam-style questions.

Sharing our own homework tasks, mistakes and wins is also very useful in deepening learners' understanding so students are encouraged to share as much as possible with myself and each other the specifics of what they are working on, any clips and links to useful resources and using our discussions to help each other.

Supply List
Occasionally pupils may be asked to bring along equipment such as a calculator, pencils, crayons, a ruler, or items to count out or measure, such as dried food items or leaves. Parents will be notified well in advance of this and should it be difficult to source an item in time, a contingency plan will be made to provide for the learner ensuring inclusion and no singling out occurs.

Pupils may benefit from a mini whiteboard and markers to share their ideas with others and myself in class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
