Class Experience

Dance is for everybody and EVERY BODY!

Tweens and teens are encouraged to join in for this fun dance class from an instructor who has taught dance to special needs children and adults for 10 years. No experience required. We will begin with introducing ourselves to our classmates and a warm up with stretching to relax and make our bodies feel looser. Then we will learn new dance techniques each week (like how to turn, make a passé position for balance, or explore low/medium/high levels). We will practice learning choreography to a new song each week, encouraging memorization and working towards a goal. Our class will perform the dance together. At the end of class, we will play a game, such as freeze dance, together.

If a leaner needs any special modifications or if there is anything I need to know, please send me a message before class to discuss. Dancers will be encouraged to participate to the best of their own abilities, but absolutely nothing is required. If they want to observe and listen to the music, that is perfectly fine.

Learning Goals

Students will learn dance moves and find fun ways to exercise. They will gain strength, balance, and flexibility. We will also work on social skills, following directions, listening to the teacher, and focusing.

Parental Guidance
Students are more than welcome to dress up for class, as long as clothing is loosely fitted and does not have anything a child could trip over. Please make sure your child takes the class in an open area where they will not accidentally kick something or put themselves in danger. Ideally, the space would not be slippery, but if it is a slippery surface, it is recommended to use non-stick socks or shoes. Parents and guardians should remain nearby to assist and prevent accidents. Children are free to dress up in prince and princess clothing, but please make sure the attire is loosely fitting. Having a water bottle nearby is ideal. If class is taken during warmer months, it is ideal to have an air conditioner or fan running to prevent overheating. If there is something I should make a note about regarding limitations, please send me a message at least 2 hours before class time.
