US Grade 5 - 8
Often times the small daily habits we build lead to the greatest successes in life. Which is what we aim to do as writers in this course! Through short and sweet daily writing prompts, the goal for this summer is to sharpen our writing and revising skill sets. Each week, students will be given a pre-recorded grammar lesson to review common mishaps writers make along with daily writing prompts in the classroom discussion. Each writing prompt will ask for students to write one paragraph to answer the question. I will be sending private feedback to each student based off a rubric I will post during the first week. Feedback will be sent every Monday starting in Week 2. Here is the syllabus for what each week's content will contain: Week 1: Grammar focus: "Call the COPS" strategy for revising writing. Writing theme: Hobbies & recreation Week 2: Grammar focus: Stretching a sentence to add detail. Writing theme: Things to do on school breaks Week 3: Grammar focus: Common Errors Part 1: Capitalization. Writing theme: TV & Movies Week 4: Grammar focus: Common Errors Part 2: Apostrophes. Writing theme: All about you Week 5: Grammar focus: Common Errors Part 3: Punctuate with more than a period. Writing theme: A day at the beach Week 6: Grammar focus: Organizing an answer. Writing focus: What if... Week 7: Grammar focus: Common spelling mishaps. Writing focus: In a galaxy far, far away Week 8: Grammar focus: Building confidence! Writing focus: Superheroes & Spies Note: This class is FLEX and will have no live instruction. I will be available to answer any questions Monday to Friday. Video lessons will be 10-15 minutes long depending on the content of the lesson - we want this practice to be short but meaningful!
