Class Experience

The class will begin with my introducing the history of cursive writing to the students. I will include examples in the introduction of cursive writing so that the students can become familiar with the style. The class will then transition into my teaching the students how to write each uppercase letter in cursive. The students will write these letters on their lined paper with pencils. Once the students have written the letters, they will use a colored pencil (crayons can work too) to trace over the letters again so that they get additional practice in forming the letters.

During the second class, the students will learn to write lowercase cursive letters using the same methods that were taught in the first class.
Learning Goals
The students will learn the history behind cursive writing so that they can develop a deep appreciation for this style of handwriting. The students will learn how to form each uppercase and lowercase letter in cursive.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have grown up using cursive as an everyday form of handwriting. I have worked with children in different educational settings and have been disappointed that the classic art of cursive is disappearing. I would like the chance to walk students through the process of learning to write in cursive so that the art can stay alive.
