Class Experience

Each week of this class, students will learn how to encode and decode a specific cipher. Each class will include learning about the ciphers via demonstration and videos, practice decrypting (solving) and encrypting (writing) the ciphers, and finally an opportunity to share the ciphers created that day. Topics covered each week will be:
Week of January 9- Pigppen cipher
Week of January 16- Rail Fence cipher
Week of January 23- Caesar cipher
Week of January 30- Polybius cipher
Week of February 6- Block cipher
Week of February 13- Keyword cipher
Week of February 20- Twisted path cipher
Week of February 27- Morse code
Week of March 6- Playfair cipher
Week of March 13- Book cipher
Week of March 20- Vigenère cipher

*When time allows, additional information may be added to that day's class. This may include additional ciphers and/or the history of cryptography and important individuals in the development of this field.

Parental Guidance

Scissors may be used to cut out materials so parental supervision will be needed.
