Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner Level
Can you already make a chain stitch? Have you tried the single crochet stitch but still feel confused? Maybe you know the single crochet stitch but your squares always turn into circles. This class is for you!

We will be learning the single crochet stitch at the beginning of the lesson and then learning some foundational crochet skills to ensure that our squares stay straight and uniform.

I keep my class sizes small to ensure that each student has time to ask me questions and get the help they need. I use scaffolding techniques to be sure that less experienced students as well as those with more experience can all learn something new.
Learning Goals
Learning goals are as follows:
1. Learn the single crochet stitch.
2. Learn to make a turning chain and turn the work.
3. Learn to use stitch markers and use them to count stitches.
4. Learn how to keep our edges straight.

Parental Guidance
Students and parents should take extra safety precautions when using scissors. Students may need to cut yarn if it becomes tangled or knotted. Please talk to your child about how to use scissors safely or be nearby to offer help.
Pre-Requisites
We will not discuss holding hooks, making a chain, or making a slip knot in this class. Students should already know these skills before signing up for this lesson. (I have a complete beginner class available if you've never made a chain)
Supply List
Materials we will need in class:
1. Yarn: I advise against using overly furry or fluffy yarns for beginners as the fluff hides the stitches.

2. Crochet hook: Your yarn label will suggest a good hook size to purchase

3. Stitch markers: Crochet stitch markers must be able to be opened. You can buy some on Amazon for as low as $2.00 for a pack. You can also use paper clips!

4. Scissors
