We first will begin discussing yarns and needles. What the numbers mean, what the labels tell you , deciding on which needle (hook) to use,how to hold your work, how to begin a project , and how to begin understanding the crochet terminology. Then we will begin practicing stitches. The first stitch you will learn is the chain stitch. Then, as time allows you will learn single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet stitches. Details about stitches we tend to explore as we are learning crochet. The chain stitch: In US terms, it's abbreviated as ch in written patterns. It sometimes is called the foundation stitch of crochet. We will talk about hoe It is used to create a base chain that serves as the starting point for many projects. The single crochet when you insert the hook into a stitch, yarn over and pull through, yarn over again and pull through both loops on the hook. In US terms It's abbreviated as SC. It's a very dense and short stitch. Likely, we will not have time to continue into more intermediate level stitches, but it depends per learner. In half double crochet, you yarn over first, then insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull through, yarn over again and pull through all three loops. The half double crochet stitch is smaller than a double but bigger then a single stitch. It's abbreviated as hdc The double crochet stitch: Abbreviated in US terms as dc. This stitch is taller than the half double and single crochet stitches. Double crochet is created when you yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull through, yarn over and pull through the first two loops on the hook, and then yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops on the hook. Other stitches you'll be able to pursue as you become more advanced are: The puff stitch, the star stitch, the bobble stitch, the front post double crochet, the back post double crochet, the shell stitch, the V stitch, the cluster, the waffle stitch, the wave, the ripple, the seed stitch and many more. Objectives Learn how to choose the correct hook. Learn how to chain, single crochet, potentially learn to half double crochet, and double crochet. If you progress through the chain stitch and single crochet concepts, we can think about planning your first project! If we don't get to these in class, you'll have resources after class to explore more and continue learning. Reference videos and patterns will be provided as website links and pdfs. This class can be repeated several times!
Learning Goals
Learners become familiar with terminology,
Learners gain understanding of hooks and yarn styles,
Lear.ers begin practicng basic chain stitch
After the chain stitch, we will begin other stitches. The order will go: single crochet, slip stitch, half double crochet and more ( the amount of stitches you learn depends on how well the previous stitch is understood and skillfully executed. This takes time and likely will need practice).
