Through teacher guided discussion, visuals, clips, and a student created art piece, participants will learn about animal adaptations with a focus on bioluminescence and deep sea creatures. A teacher created slideshow will bring students on an informative journey about viperfish, vampire squid, and the Anglerfish. Students will delve into the unique adaptations that allow these creatures to survive in their extreme environment. A culminating activity will close the class as students create their own deep sea creature, label its adaptations, and explain how these adaptations help it to survive. Students will then share their creations.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to explain the meaning of adaptation while developing an basic understanding of how deep sea creatures survive in their extreme environments.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught elementary school for over 13 years including content specific science classes. I have also created engaging science based lessons which were integrated across all core subjects. I have been a committed member of our local science education committee while volunteering with the local science fair. In my spare time, I enjoy reading about plants and animals.
