During the program, we will meet the otters of the Texas State Aquarium via live cameras. We will make scientific observations about otter behavior, the parts of the body, and other adaptations that otters use to move and survive in their watery habitats. We will then practice using a Venn diagram to compare and contrast sea otters and river otters. Students can then ask our otter expert instructors all their questions while watching our resident river otter family swim and play in their habitat at the Texas State Aquarium. No previous knowledge is needed; just come prepared to learn and have fun! We recommend pre-printing the Venn diagram included on the classroom page. Please Note: In the nature of live cameras, sometimes the animals will not be in view. We will supplement with recorded footage of said animals whenever possible.
Students will be able to name 3 otter adaptations.
Students can describe one difference between a sea otter and a river otter.A two page handout will be provided in the classroom page. Please print ahead of time (single sided only)! Scissors Glue or tape
The Texas State Aquarium is a non-profit, AZA accredited aquarium that focuses on the species and habitats in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Opened in 1990, our mission is to engage people with animals, inspire appreciation for our seas, and support wildlife conservation.
TSA's Aquavision is the perfect platform for students and families to learn and discover together. Our FIN-tastic virtual programs put aquatic animals front and center in your home with real-time cameras throughout our animal exhibits.
Our professional education team is composed of passionate individuals with years of teaching experience. Our goal is to inspire students to learn about the natural world, and connect them to the animals that might not be in their own backyard. We focus on student-led learning using and developing STEM processing skills.
