US Grade 2 - 4
Each of these classes will be structured like a mini-writer's workshop session. The students will enjoy being able choose prompts they would like to write to. We will build on what the student's have already learned about writing and create well written, interesting stories. The main focus for this class is for the students to brainstorm ideas, transfer those ideas to paper, write, edit, revise and learn how to improve the technical side of their writing. Most importantly this class will help build their confidence for writing. Each week will have a fun theme or the students can go off of their own ideas. I will have prompts available to choose from. *This class should be the next step after beginning writers workshop. We will go a little deeper into the writing process and cover higher level skills. 5 minutes - introductions, "exciting" events they want to share in their lives. 5 minutes - Mini Lesson - During this time I will give a quick lesson on the skill we will focus on that class. I will give examples and discuss them with the students. 15 minutes - Writing - Each learner will write a story of their choosing. They can write about whatever they would like or use the prompt I provide. During this time we will share topics and discuss different ideas. This is also a time to ask questions and work on the technical side of their writing by checking grammar and word choice. 5 - 10 minutes - Share Time - Each child will be given the opportunity to share their story with the group (but are not required to). This class will be different every time, so you are welcome to join as many times as you'd like! The skills may be repeated but the stories that we all write are always different. *This class may occasionally go over the scheduled ending.
