US Grade 4 - 7
Intermediate - Advanced Level
In this ongoing class, the learner is the leader. In our first meeting, we will discuss what the students' skills are and see what level they are with their writing skills. Do they know the steps of the writing process? Do they understand topic sentences or the different types of writing styles? Can they discern between first person and third person voice? The teacher should know what grade the student is currently in school to see what grade level works best for them. Not only will we be writing, but we will also read a variety of books and create book reports. We will also learn pay attention to proofreading skills and learn how to correct our own essays and papers. This class will meet once a week for 25 minutes and will be in a private 1:1 setting. We will have workbook pages and other activities shared on the screen and homework will be given after every class, unless otherwise noted. We will then always have discussions and a variety of homework assignments. The first four weeks of classes should look like this: Week 1 -- Why do I want to write and what's the point? Week 2-- Knowing our audience and sticking to main ideas Week 3 -- Staying on topic and how to start paragraphs Week 4 ---Voices (active and passive voice)? How can we figure this out? The lessons continue with more writing, and we will build from there. We will learn how to be a narrator or write a descriptive story. We will have writing prompts if the student needs help thinking of ideas. At the end of the course the student, should have better writing skills and have more confidence in writing essays and other assignments in school. I cannot wait to have you in class to start your writing and proofreading journey. See you soon.
