Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
In this course, students will brainstorm, write and share their short stories with each other. For the first 30-40 minutes of class, we will go over how to develop a short story. I will present a Google doc with an example of a short story that I wrote. I will then present a Google doc with ideas on how to brainstorm a short story as well as write a story outline. Learners will also be provided with a list of appropriate story topics/genres to choose from. Learners will be taught what to write in the beginning, middle and end of a short story. Plot and character development will be discussed here as well. Students will then be given about 20-30 minutes to write their short story depending on how much time is needed. For the last 10 minutes of class, students are encouraged to share their short stories out loud and I will give positive feedback as well as tips on how students can further develop their stories. If students are more comfortable, they can share the story with me via an Outschool message after class and I can give feedback that way as well. Students can also enjoy listening to others' short stories and learn from one another's examples. Students are encouraged to give positive feedback to others. Students should come to class with prior experience in writing paragraphs and have a basic knowledge about writing short stories.
Learning Goals
