US Grade 3
The teacher of this class happens to have a love of language, reading and communication and in turn creative writing which has driven me to make it my mission to inspire children to also love writing. I know that writing is a struggle for many young leaners and I want to turn that struggle into a strength. I will point out the many ways that writers entertain us, not only through the books and articles we read, but they dazzle us with the stories they tell on the big screen in the movies, on our favorite TV shows, and even in the lyrics of the music that pumps us up everyday! Students will end this class excited to share their stories and creations and proud of their accomplishments. I will cover the major writing types (Narrative/Persuasive/Informational/Expository) addressed in the grade common core standards (as well as many state standards). Each genre of writing will last for 3 weeks and students will work on one writing piece per week, editing and revising with each class meeting. The sessions will be scheduled as follows: Week 1 (Sept. 11-14) - Narrative Writing Week 2 (Sept. 18-21) - Narrative Writing Week 3 (Sept. 25-28) - Narrative Writing Week 4 (Oct. 2-5) - Informational Writing Week 5 (Oct. 9-12) - Informational Writing Week 6 (Oct. 16-19) - Informational Writing Week 7 (Oct. 23-26) - Persuasive Writing Week 8 (Oct.30-Nov. 2) - Persuasive Writing Week 9 (Nov. 6-9) - Persuasive Writing Week 10 (Nov. 13-16) - Expository Writing Week 11 (Nov. 20-23) - Expository Writing (No Class Nov 23rd - Thanksgiving) Week 12 (Nov. 27-30) - Expository Writing
