Class Experience

This one-time class is all about sharing our love of storytelling through writing. Each meeting of this class will use a different prompt every time, so students can attend as many sessions as they would like and never write about the same thing twice!

This class is a great fit for these types of students:
~ Those who enjoy writing and want dedicated time to write with others
~ Those who understand grammar and writing "rules" but need to be challenged creatively
~ Those who want to express their creativity and explore story-telling techniques but may lack confidence because of grammar, spelling mistakes, or other reasons

Unlike traditional writing classes that focus heavily on spelling, grammar, and structure, this group focuses on the joy of writing, celebrating imagination and originality in student writing.

Class format:
Meet and greet (5 minutes): Students will introduce themselves and do a quick writing warm-up.
Read and Discuss (10 minutes): Students will read the writing prompt together in class and brainstorm ideas for their responses.
Writing Time (15 minutes): Students will write a rough draft of their response. I will check in with students periodically to make sure they are actively writing and to discuss what they are writing about
Share and Review (15 minutes): Students will share what they have written so far. If they haven't finished, they will discuss their plans for how their piece will end. Students will provide polite, helpful feedback for each other.

Camera Policy: Because this class has a large writing component, I require learners to keep their cameras on throughout the class. This helps me make sure your learner is staying on task and doing the class activity, and it also make the class more enjoyable overall when we can all see each others faces. The only exception will be for learners who have been pre-approved by Outschool Security to have their cameras off.
