Creative Writing: How to Hook a Reader into a Story! (Ages 7-10) Does your child struggle to know how to start a story? Sometimes a blank page can be intimidating, and it can be hard to know where to begin. In this class, I will teach six ways to inspire some exciting creative writing that will grab the attention of the reader straight away. The class will begin with an overview of our learning objective: how to hook a reader into our story. I then outline six ‘lures’ to use when we go ‘fishing’ for a reader! We learn more about these strategies, look at examples given with picture prompts, have fun with a quick quiz to review what we learned, and then get into some writing practice so they can apply their new knowledge. If time allows, class will conclude with some sharing back of our hooks and a discussion about what hook they’d like to use in their next story. An optional homework task will be provided – using a lure for their own creative piece of writing to see if they can hook me in! Note: Suitable for native English speakers or fluent ESOL. This course is recommended to extend younger writers (7-8 years) and accelerate middle primary writers (9-10 years).
Learning Goals
