Creative Writing: Learning to Improve Writing Skills and Journaling
In this one week camp, learners will be introduced to writing creatively using adjectives and imagery and learn how to journal. This class is appropriate for both beginning and intermediate writers, developing skills from current level.

Intermediate Level
Learning to express yourself through writing is a skill that begins early in the educational process and continues to develop with maturity. Writing both fiction stories including fantasy and more realistic genres, as well as journaling and non-fiction can be developed from a young age supporting creativity and imagination. Children also learn to express feelings and thoughts. Each class will begin with a sample story that either the teacher models or the class creates together. We will also discuss how to make stories more interesting by using adjectives and imagery. This will occur in the first ten minutes of class. Students will then use the remaining time to create their own story using either a choice of story prompts, a word bank, or a story of their choosing for the first and second lesson. If a learner completes his/her story during class, they may choose to illustrate it as well. Completed stories will be posted in the classroom if they chose and all learners will return to read their story the following day. The third day we will practice journaling in place of story writing. Lessons four and five will return to story writing with learners writing stories of their choosing.
