Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Creative writing and Journaling is a creative way which allows students to express themselves through writing, photography and art.

Week 1: What is journaling? Can you think of anyone from the past who wrote in a journal?
What other ways than writing can we journal?
--Homework: Take a photo each day and place in a journal. Bring this to class next week.

Week 2: What can we learn from the pictures other students took of their week?
Can photography be a way to journal, and how can this express yourself and impact others?
--Homework: Draw something every day (could be a cube or a twig-- something you found interesting).
Bring to class next week.

Week 3: We will talk about students' drawings and how drawings can impact others, as well as how journaling with pictures can be a wonderful way to express oneself.
--Homework: Combine photography, writing and drawings throughout the week to make an original journal.

Week 4: What journaling style did you like the best? Are there other ways of journaling?
--No Homework.

Week 5: Creative ways to come up with a good story.
--Homework: Come up with a story about a pet.

Week 6: (Review homework). Talk about how different authors through history have impacted how we write.
--Homework: Take a story from Shakespeare or Charles Dickens, and make it your own. You only have to do a small part. For example, in A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of Christmas present: make that part of A Christmas Carol into your own story.

Week 7: Review and come up with ideas that you can change other stories into their own.

*To all students and parents. Although I give homework, please do not feel pressured that you have to do it. The biggest thing that I want you to take from this class is to have fun.
