Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
We all know that children are full of thoughts and ideas. They just don’t know how to express what they’re thinking in writing. When teaching students about writing, I explain to them that writing is like telling a story on paper. I begin by showing them what their thoughts look like. For example, I have them share an idea while I write it on the chart. In the beginning I emphasize the content of the writing rather than grammatical correctness.
These skills will be taught through various activities and techniques. Students will learn by hands-on writing activities, interactive activities, through videos, discussion, and lots of practice. Each session will be interactive with students completing activities for skill mastery.
The activities include:
Drawing pictures using basic shapes and lines
Labeling pictures using best-guess spelling
Writing a complete sentence with a subject and predicate
Proper use of capitals, spaces between words, and punctuation
How to write using a sentence stem
Learn to write telling sentences (declarative)
How to write asking sentences (question)
Teach how to write exclamatory sentences
Writing lists
Listing 3 or more things in a sentence using commas
Respond to questions in writing
Writing stronger sentences using adjectives, adverbs, who, what, where, when, or how
Write more than one sentence on a topic

This class is best suited for students who already know how to read basic words and have begun reading sentences and writing many words.
I aim to build love for writing in the young ones, so don’t be surprised when you see a written note from your young one. 😊

Week1:
Read it, write it and fix it:
•	We learn to write correct sentence by paying attention to, beginning the sentence in capital letter, finger spacing, punctuation and word order.
•	We learn to identify the subject and predicate in the sentence. We will also learn the difference between verb and predicate.
•	We learn to place the subject and predicate in a sentence.
•	We will identify complete vs incomplete sentences.

Week2:
We learn what are ADJECTIVES and ADVERBS, how are they different from each other and how they help us in building sentences.
Once my students have mastered writing simple sentences, I encourage them to add a little sparkle to their work. For example, if a student writes “I like dogs,” have them explain what types of dogs they like. I continue by guiding them through the creation of a new sentence. For example: “I like brown dogs with curly hair.” The children thus learn to stretch a sentence.

Week3:
We learn to write the sentence in the correct TENSE FORM.
•	We learn to write sentences in simple present tense, simple past tense and simple future tense.
•	We learn to change a sentence from simple present to past tense. The change in verb is explained. For example, see becomes saw and not seed or sawed.

Week4:
We learn to build questions using the 5 W (When, Where, What, Why and Which).
This activity not only helps a child to build questions but will also help them frame sentences to write on any topic. For eg: we practice to write about my favorite toy. The child will start writing by answering all the questions with 5Ws
•	What is my favorite toy?
•	Where do I keep my favorite toy?
•	When do I play with my toy?
•	What is the name of my toy?
•	Why is it my favorite toy?

Week5:
I provide the children with various interesting writing prompts. They write best when they are writing about something that interest them.
Through activities such as “WRITE-don’t show” the children are encouraged to write about their favorite toy, food etc and then the rest of the class guesses what is the thing.
Learning Goals
Children will learn to frame and write complete sentences with the correct tense form.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! Welcome to my fun-corner. I have been in the teaching profession for over 10 years now and have passionately fallen in love with it every moment. I have been conducting engaging classes for young learners ranging a wide variety of topics including English (Reading, Writing & Speaking), Life Skills, Environmental/Plant Sciences, Geography, Hindi, Malayalam, Yoga and Art.

I firmly believe that, "Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel." and so my classes are always about 3 I's, Interesting, Interactive and Inspiring.

I focus on classes from a large range of topics that are engaging and cater to every student's needs and interests. My experience as a teacher for over a decade has gifted me with a large toolbox of methods and ideas that I can use to help each student feel comfortable, curious and connected to their learning experiences.

I have always believed in hands on activities which are very interactive, engaging and interesting and that is exactly what you will find in all my classes here.

I am a Post-graduate in English Literature. I also hold a Bachelor's degree in Education and a diploma in Aviation, hospitality, travel and tourism. I am a trained Montessori teacher and have taught kids from Kindergarten to Grade-12. I am also a Yoga enthusiast and have been practicing for over a decade.

When I am not teaching, either I am scribbling my thoughts on my blog page, curled up in a corner with an amazing book and a cup of coffee, or you would find me exploring places and doing some fun outdoor activity.

I am looking forward to some amazing sessions together. :)
