US Grade 1 - 2
(There is a Saturday option available for this course and there are also many ongoing options available as well that do not show here. Message the teacher for the link to the ongoing class.)
This is a 2 day course for ages 6-8 who are just beginning to write. We will begin the class by simply creating a story together as a class. The teacher will model writing sentences as the story develops. The students will be encouraged to personalize their story as we go by adding some unique details to their story. Each student will end the first day of class with a short, completed written story. On the second day, we will begin a second story. Students will have the opportunity to share their stories with the class and they will be encouraged to read the stories to their family after class.

For this class, students need to have the ability to put words down on paper. Spelling words correctly is not critical at this point; simply having the ability to sound out words and write them down is all that is necessary. This class will work both for reluctant writers and for young writers that are excited about writing.

After teaching this Creative Writing Series to more than 1,000 students, these are some general principles that I have noticed:
1. Students who did not enjoy writing have fun in this class.
2. Students who love to write have fun in this class.
3. Parents are impressed that their children write so much (amount of writing depends on the level of the student).
4. ESL students benefit because of the immersion in the English language.
5. Students that need help with sentence structure will receive that help in this class and become immersed in good writing.
6. Students receive help organizing their ideas into a written format.
7. Students gain confidence in their writing skills and realize that they CAN write.

FIve year olds and nine year olds are welcome to take this class if the parent feels that this class is a good fit for them. Five year olds need to be comfortable with basic reading and also comfortable with copying and writing words down.

This course is also listed as a one day Saturday class for those students who do not see available times during the week. Contact the teacher for the Saturday option. Ongoing options are also available.

Message the teacher for a coupon code to use if you are a first time student with this teacher.
