Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
This class will be a fun, low-stress environment designed to help elementary-aged girls develop a love for writing by utilizing topics that many girls this age love: unicorns, fairies, and princesses!! 🧚‍♀️ 🦄 Any child who enjoys these topics is welcome to join this class!

Ms. Price believes that learning should be fun, and she will use her skills as a certified teacher to incorporate writing instruction into a fun, interactive class! This class is a one-time class that is based off of her popular on-going Creative Writing Social Club for girls! This one-time class was created for those who either want to try one class before jumping into an on-going group or who do not have time for a weekly class but want something fun to do during a free spot in their schedule.

This class will start with an exercise where learners will use their imaginations to discuss what a world with fairies, unicorns, and princesses might look like. They will be assisted by Ms. Price's Playmobil characters! Then, each learner will draw a picture 🎨 of what this imaginary world looks like! Please note: This is NOT an art class, and learners do not need to have any kind of artistic skills for this class. 😉 The purpose of starting with drawing is it gets those right brain, creative juices flowing! 🧠

After we have drawn our pictures, learners will have the opportunity to share with their peers what they have drawn. They will have the option to show their actual picture to the class or to just verbally describe their drawing (this takes the pressure off of those who are not confident in their artistic abilities). The purpose of this step for students to elaborate on what they have drawn, adding details verbally to what they imagined in their mind and/or put on paper.

Next, Ms. Price will guide the students through a process of taking those creative ideas and putting them on paper in written form. To be successful in this class, learners need to have the ability and confidence to write out words, at least phonetically. Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation are not necessary. If your learner is capable of doing this, this class should be a great fit for them!

PLEASE NOTE: This class is intended to inspire a love of writing through learning to create an imaginative story through visual prompts shared by the teacher, verbal processing between peers and teacher, by learners drawing pictures of their unique setting and characters. A lot of our discussion will center around creating a unique setting and interesting characters for our stories. While the final portion of the class will be writing out our stories, there will not be explicit instruction on *how* to write a story. Our goal is to get creative stories on paper, not to have a perfectly written narrative by the end of a 45-minute class. :)

Learning Goals

🎨 Students will improve their creative thinking skills through learning to use their right brain (creative side) to draw colorful pictures based off a prompt given by the teacher.
🔈 Students will improve their verbal communication skills by describing the picture that they drew to their peers and teacher.
📝 Students will improve their writing skills by taking the story that they have verbally told and putting it on paper in written form.
👯‍♀️ Students will develop their interpersonal skills as they share ideas with others, provide positive feedback to one another, and have fun connecting with other girls their age through this fun class!
