Does your child like to write stories or poems? In this once-a-week class, students will get a chance to explore their creativity and write. Each week will be outlined as a quick greeting, followed by a mini-lesson, about 5-10 minutes to write and ended with a chance for the students to share. The following weeks will be as such: Week 1: September 11th Week 1: Brainstorming Ideas: What Are Your Going to Write About? Students will think about a recent event in their life that made them happy and made them laugh and write a story about that. Week of September 18th Week 2: Drafting: Writing Your Story Students will write a story and throw away their inner editor so that they can just express their ideas. Week of September 25th Week 3: Word Choice: Choosing the Correct Words Students will look at common words and learn other words that they can use in place of them to add detail and write a story with that in mind. Week of October 1st Week 4: Editing: Punctuation and Capitals Students will review punctuation and capitals and write a story Week of October 8th Week 5: Description: Adding Details Students will learn how to add details with adjectives and adverbs.
