US Grade 3 - 5
We will write short, medium, or long stories depending on each student’s personal preference. Although the majority of students prefer fiction, science-fiction, and fantasy fiction, students may choose a different genre if they prefer. At the end of class students are given the option to read their work to the class. Together we will discuss, analyze, and plan our writing while keeping in mind the literary elements: Character development, foreshadowing, symbolism, theme, setting, diction, plot, conflict, flashbacks, imagery, and point-of-view. Learners can choose to write a different short story each week, or they can add on to one book. This club is focused on reading, writing, group discussion, and creativity. Learners are encouraged to think outside of the box. This club allows for creativity and imagination to flow. Learners will receive constructive feedback about their writing. Topic of April 4-10: the middle of your story/book! What to include in the middle and how to introduce it!
Learning Goals
Learners will develop writing skills as well as social skills.
