Beginner - Intermediate Level
Welcome Families to my creative writing workshop! My main goal for students is build a love for writing and put their creative ideas to paper. Each week will be a stand alone lesson, so students can join at any time. Students will learn a strategy or technique and practice using that strategy in their draft writing. Students will choose topics from their own experiences that are important and meaningful to them. We will follow the workshop model, so students will know the format of each session. Workshop Model: 15 minute mini lesson: *Introduce the learning goals. *Teach the skill or strategy for the session. *Model how to write using the skill or strategy. 10 minute guided practice *Students will practice the skill or strategy on a smaller scale with my guidance. 25 minute writing time with teacher support *Students will choose a topic to write about and apply the skill/strategy taught in the mini lesson. *I will check-in with students during this time and provide feedback and support. 10 minute share time *Students will have the opportunity to share their writing if they choose. *Students may also submit his/her writing to me for further feedback. External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
2 Teaching Certificates
Maine Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Florida Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Prior to being a homeschool mom, I taught 7th & 8th grade English/Language Arts for 10 years in the classroom in Maine. After receiving my literacy specialist certification, I became a 4th & 5th grade literacy specialist/coach for the next 5 years. During that time, I was trained in the Wilson Language Program and became a certified Dyslexia Practitioner. I also worked alongside colleagues to develop a literacy curriculum aligned to state standards.
Along with teaching at a school, I started a tutoring company to support all learners. In the fall of 2021, I moved to Florida with my family and decided to tutor full time, teaching reading, writing, and math. While tutoring full time, I entered the world of homeschool.
Over the past three years, I’ve worked with many homeschool families, and eventually started homeschooling my own son as he entered his fourth grade year.
