Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner Level
Scylla and Charybdis are beasts to battle in a sea of monsters! Writers in this multi-day writing camp learn techniques for story development and then they spend time in class writing. Students will learn to weave their own mini hero's journey!

Each live class includes explicit, direct instruction with teacher modeling, guided feedback, and independent practice. Further, students get to read their story segments aloud to the rest of the class if they want (it is not required). Students receive authentic and constructive feedback from the instructor that helps students correct their grammar mistakes and fine-tune their skills.

We follow best practices in designing class time, assignments, and routines. According to Pennington Publishing, effective writing feedback (or grading) is:
โ€ข Specific, not general
โ€ข Immediate, not postponed
โ€ข Routine with a revision / feedback cycle
โ€ข Explanatory
โ€ข The right amount
โ€ข Targeted to the most critical issues
โ€ข Varied (written, audio, and video comments)
โ€ข Holding students accountable
