Learner progress is assessed in a written report each week, both from student feedback as well as teacher feedback for areas of growth.Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Students will begin each week by viewing a weekly video lecture explaining the writing challenge of the week as well as tips and tricks to perfect their craft as a writer. They will then undertake the week's challenge, submitting their finished writing either in the discussion board or in video format (reading their story). Then, each student will engage in a peer edit of the classmate's as we all offer constructive feedback during the writer's workshop. While this is a flexible schedule class, it aims to still be interactive with myself and the other students. There will be weekly polls and quizzes posted in the classroom for students to answer as well as weekly peer / teacher involved assignments (i.e. essay workshops, writing prompts, etc). There will be amply opportunity for students to share work with me to get feedback but also opportunities to engage in collaborative discussions by sharing work with peers. After all, the students in this class share a similar goal, and it's important to build those communication and community involvement skills. One team, one dream! I will check in daily to the classroom chat and discussion board to help facilitate the conversation, but it is expected that students participate multiple times per week as well. Learning Goals
Students will practice and improve upon their writing skills, mastering techniques needed in various genres each week. There will be a focus on grammar and punctuation, vocabulary, and technical writing along with exposure to fiction, memoir, poetry, songwriting, and visual arts within creative writing. While this is a flexible schedule class to give students time to work on their writing at their own pace, there be ample video recordings to access so that the class is still interactive for all learning styles. Students will have the opportunity to continue in the class past this course as although it is flexible, it is run workshop style, so this class can be repeated if a student wants to keep engaging in creative writing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
Hello, everyone! My name is Mr. W, and I have been a teacher for nine years and hold a Master's Degree. I teach primarily English, literature, and writing courses, but I also offer college advising and test prep workshops along with yoga, which is by hobby outside of the classroom. I have taught all over the world aside from the USA, my favorite places being Portugal, China, and lastly, Vietnam, which is where I am currently living and working as a teacher and university guidance counselor.
I think education is vital to understanding the world around us. I still consider myself to be a student of the world, every day aiming to learn something new and making sense of what's around us in fresh ways. I embrace that every student learns differently, and my philosophy of education is to individualize learning for each of my students while making it a fun, remarkable experience.
A fun fact about me is when I am not teaching, I am either writing my own short stories and poems or traveling the world, having just visited my 49th country! I hope to one day visit them all. :) I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
