Week 2: Review Famous Poets/Writers
Week 3: Write & Edit Our Own Pieces
Week 4: Perform Our Work Aloud

In this course, students will be introduced to literary role models, performers, and writing craft techniques during live weekly classes. Classes will begin with brief overview of creative writing and writing techniques, followed by student discussion. Classes will also include listening and/or watching performances of various writing styles as well as students presenting their work to the instructor and peers for constructive feedback.

Performance craft techniques to be discussed include voice, tone, pitch, pronunciation, annunciation, eye contact, and projection. Students will learn how to use these tools by implementing it in their own writing, then use these tools to perform their work aloud. No prior writing or performance experience necessary for students to enroll.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
My contribution as an educator comes from my insistent need to empower young people with the tools that helped me identify my exact voice: creative writing and performance. As an accomplished, and published, poet and spoken word artist, I plan to use both my honed writing voice and my extensive performance experience (as well as a diverse canon of words from other authors) to introduce students to the multi-faceted world of creative writing, performance art, and public speaking.

My hope is that through these topics, students will gain a breadth of knowledge in writing, confidence, and speaking, and will be inspired to investigate their own identities and voices.
