In this course, students will learn how to compile their creative ideas into organized writing that draws the reader in and keeps them interested throughout the story. The students will learn how to separate their main ideas into organized aspects of a story. During the first class, we will explore ways to use adjectives to make our stories come alive! We will talk heavily about creating a strong beginning for a story. The students will learn how to develop a beginning that: - Provides a setting - Introduces characters - Introduces the problem of the story In class 2, the students will learn how to write a strong middle to a story that: - Walks the reader through how the character(s) plan to solve the problem - The struggles that the character(s) run into when trying to solve the problem - Leading readers to the climax of the story. In class 3, the students will construct a strong ending to their stories that: - Gives a final solution to the story problem - Ties the story together - Gives the reader a sense of finality in the story. The students will also work on editing their stories to prepare them for presentation. In the final class, the students will present their stories to the class. I will use an assessment form to assess the students' stories. I will provide and go over the rubric with the students during each class so that they know what to expect and they will be required to send their finished stories to me between the third and fourth class so that I can thoroughly assess their stories.

Parental Guidance
***Please be advised if your child is the only student in class, I will reach out to you the day before to inform you of the following option. If you are still interested in your child taking the class alone, then you can join my Individual Creative Writing Class. This class teaches the same content, yet it is taught in 30 minute sessions (since individual students often do not need the full 50 minutes of this class to complete their work) and you will be charged less for the class. You will also be refunded for this class so that you do not double pay. Here is the link to the individual sessions: https://outschool.com/classes/individual-creative-writing-class-w2OJqfIu#usYlaTshXV***
Supply List
I will upload an outline guide for the students to have printed out before the first class. They will need this printout to help them organize their ideas for the class story that they will write. For the class story, the students are free to decide whether they will handwrite or type their stories.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am offering this class because I am a creative thinker and writer myself. As a teacher, I love to hear students offer their own creative ideas and thoughts, yet I feel discouraged when I observe the students struggle to publish and bring attention to their wonderful creativity. I have led creative writing classes and make it my goal to channel the students' creativity into their writing so that others can appreciate their ideas and thoughts appropriately.
