US Grade 4 - 7
In this weekly and ongoing creative story writing class, learners will be given a new photo prompt each week to inspire their story writing each week. I am an experienced and certified teacher in the UK. In each 30 minute lesson, we will look at a new photo, exploring some relevant vocabulary together and considering questions and sentence starters. We will then start a story, following on from a given story starter. This is a great way for enthusiastic story writers to expand the types of stories they usually write. Learners have the option of using https://whiteboard.fi/ which allows them to type onto a digital whiteboard, which I can also see. This is a great way of having teacher feedback and support, whilst typing. No log in is required, and whiteboard.fi is a Kahoot company. Work created on whiteboard.fi won't save, so your learner may want to copy and paste it into a document of their own at the end of class. Whiteboard.fi is FERPA certified, a COPPA safe harbor and California Student Privacy Certified. No account is required. I will encourage learners to continue their story after class, as we won't have had a long period of time to write. Learners should submit their piece of writing (even if not finished) so that I can provide feedback. My feedback is always supportive and encouraging, and will suggest an appropriate amount of edits or areas for development. In this weekly and ongoing class, a different photo prompt will be shared each week. These are all age-appropriate, creative and varied in theme. Here are some examples of the prompt titles: Week 1- The Galaxy Warriors Week 2 - The Elephant Week 3 - The Crystal Ball Week 4 - The Climb Week 5 - The Rollercoaster This is an ongoing class, and every lesson will have a new prompt. Learners can join at any time. The Standard Refund Policy of Outschool is: "Parents receive a full refund if they withdraw from a class of any type within 24 hours of purchase. Note that the 24-hour refund window only applies until the next meeting or lesson access begins.". **Please note that I will refund classes with 7+ days of notice. I hope that this allows you to feel confident in booking classes in the future. I appreciate that plans can change, and will refund with a week's notice. **

Teacher expertise and credentials
Non-US Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Brighton
I'm Ms. Riot, a creative teacher (certified, qualified and experienced) from London, England. My teaching adventure began at university with the completion of my 4-year degree (Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Primary Education) back in 2007.
In the UK, we achieve our QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) through additional exams and proven experience which I also achieved in 2007. My dissertation allowed me to carry out research into how we can motivate young learners to want to read more. I completed one of my student teaching placements in Arizona, USA and I worked as the Literacy Lead for two summers at a not-for-profit camp in New York, USA.
As an elementary classroom teacher, I developed creative classrooms where students felt safe enough to fail. My passion for reading also allowed me to develop a new career as a high school librarian, teaching reading lessons across the school. I have also taught students English up to the age of 16 at a prestigious online school.
More recently, I have worked within the learning department in a large museum, teaching at a range of online schools and designing curriculum for education resource companies. I also deliver lectures to trainee teachers.
At the heart of my teaching philosophy lies a belief that learning should be an adventure, sprinkled with curiosity and laughter. We can be serious about learning without it always being too serious.
