Responding to writing prompts is an important skill, but it can be challenging for students. Prompt writing is when students are provided with a clear, specific topic to write about. For instance, “Write about your favorite holiday.” This is a skill that students will use throughout their school careers, as well as their entire lives! Structure of Class: -Teacher models coming up with ideas: teacher thinks aloud so students hear step-by-step process (1-2 minutes) -Teacher models planning process: teacher thinks out loud and writes down some planning notes (3-5 minutes) -Teacher models putting thoughts down on paper (3-5 minutes) -Students write their stories (25 minutes) -Students share their stories (3 minutes)
