Class Experience

Creative Origami Club – Level 2 is an intermediate level origami class. Your learner should be able to fold an origami water balloon/bomb, easily and without help, and also have experience doing inside and outside reverse folds and squash folds. As a prerequisite, please have your learner watch and fold along with my video: https://youtu.be/umrJ4T-0z04

I enjoy having an interactive class. Learners can bring origami they have folded at home to show the class. My classes start in gallery view with a face-to-face introduction and then I spotlight my hands with my second camera. Follow along step-by-step as we fold the paper together. I make every effort to ensure that everyone understands the folds, sometimes demonstrating them from different angles.

Depending upon the origami model, we may have time to practice folding the same origami a second time, or we may fold a second model. Learners that want a challenge, can try to fold it using a smaller square of paper.

Origami is great for strengthening fine motor skills, shape and pattern recognition, following directions, problem solving and having fun!

Creativity and Origami:
If we are folding an animal, I demonstrate how to draw the animal’s features with markers. Sometimes we add patterns to the origami model with markers. Depending on the model, I may show how it can be pasted to a piece of paper so that the origami fold can be a “character“ in a picture story. If your child enjoys being creative in this way please see the optional materials listed below.

Pre-cut paper for origami is highly recommended. Complex folds are easier to do when using the proper paper (see link below).

I have set a strict age range for this class of 8 to 11 years old. However, if your learner is younger than 8, and you feel they have enough experience and maturity to take the class, please send me a message. I check my messages a couple times a week and will get back to you as soon as possible.

Origami themes:
Many of the folds we do in class follow along with the seasons based on where I live (eastern United States). We also fold Halloween and Valentine’s Day origami.

Week of February 28 Pop up Toy

Week of March 7 Lazy Susan

Week of March 14 Bird

Week of March 21 Snail

Week of March 28 Flower

Classes will not resume until the Fall of 2022

****If you are looking for a beginner class, check out my Creative Origami Club– Level 1 for kids 7 to 10 years old https://outschool.com/classes/creative-origami-club-PxjPa1tO?usid=tRZ3qgoY&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link.

If you are not sure what level your learner is, have them fold along with the pre-requisite video(see listing), and/or message me.

I started folding origami when my sons were younger. They both went through a phase when they could not fold enough paper! This ongoing class is a fun place where experienced folders can share with others that have the same passion.

I never cancel classes due to low enrollment. However, I will email you to let you know if your learner is the only one enrolled, in case they are uncomfortable with a one-on-one class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I own a mobile and online art school. I've taught hundreds of art workshops in public libraries, and teach afterschool enrichment in two public school districts.

I have a BFA in Ceramics from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and I'm certified in the state of Massachusetts to teach Visual Arts.

I started folding origami because both of my boys went through a phase when they were obsessed with origami. Kids love origami because they are able to transform a simple piece of paper into something three-dimensional and recognizable.
