Unlock your child's imagination and creativity with our Creative Minds Workshop! Through engaging activities and personalized instruction, students explore various writing genres, develop critical thinking skills, and unleash their storytelling potential in a supportive group setting. Week 1 (April 22): Introduction to Creative Writing Overview of the workshop objectives and expectations. Icebreaker activities to get to know each other and spark creativity. Introduction to different genres of writing: fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. Writing prompt: "My Adventure Begins..." Students will write a short piece introducing themselves and sharing their writing goals for the workshop. Week 2 (April 29): Crafting Compelling Characters Discussion on the importance of well-developed characters in storytelling. Exploration of character traits, motivations, and arcs. Interactive activity: Creating character profiles for protagonists and antagonists. Writing exercise: "Character Interviews." Students will conduct interviews with their characters to deepen their understanding and develop their personalities. Week 3 (May 6): Building Immersive Worlds Discussion on the role of setting and world-building in storytelling. Analysis of descriptive language and sensory details. Group brainstorming session: Creating imaginary worlds and settings. Writing activity: "Setting the Scene." Students will write descriptive passages to transport readers to their fictional worlds. Week 4 (May 13): Crafting Compelling Plots Overview of plot structure: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. Analysis of different types of conflict and tension in storytelling. Interactive activity: Plot brainstorming and outlining. Writing exercise: "The Plot Thickens." Students will outline the main plot points of their story ideas and begin drafting their narratives. What will be taught? Throughout the workshop, students will learn a wide range of writing techniques, explore various genres of literature, and develop critical thinking skills essential for effective storytelling. From crafting compelling characters and building immersive worlds to unraveling plot twists and mastering descriptive language, students will unlock the secrets of captivating storytelling. What topics will you cover? Week by week, students will delve into different aspects of creative writing and thinking, including character development, plot structure, dialogue, setting, point of view, and revision techniques. Each session will feature engaging writing exercises, interactive discussions, and collaborative activities designed to inspire creativity and stimulate imagination. How is your class structured? The class is structured as a series of interactive sessions, with each session building upon the concepts and skills introduced in previous weeks. Students will engage in a variety of activities, including writing prompts, group discussions, peer critiques, and instructor-led workshops, all aimed at enhancing their writing abilities and fostering critical thinking. Additionally, our instructors are available to provide individualized support and guidance to students as they explore their creativity and develop their writing skills.
