Creative Geography and Social Studies: Explore Famous Landmarks Through Art!
Class experience
US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
Welcome! Who doesn't love learning about the world's most famous places....knowing what adults are talking about, knowing why these places are important and where they are, and being able to say that you've even drawn them for yourself?! If that sounds like something you (or your learner) would enjoy, this is the class for you! Each week, we will spotlight a famous world landmark. During the first part of class, I will share my screen with students as we look at the landmark and learn...
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn to recognize and understand the importance of 15 of the most iconic world landmarks and gain valuable artistic skills that can be utilized both to underscore their geographical learning, but also in future artistic endeavors. The full term of this class could be a social studies, geography, or art unit in a homeschool, but is equally accessible to the student who wants to pop in and learn about and draw a specific landmark.

This class had great pacing, educational presentations, interesting, interactive conversations and the art projects were very attainable and fun." "Mrs. Nicole is a wonderful teacher, she is a talented artist, and conveys [material] is an enjoyable, engaging way for students. She's an excellent instructor and is very patient and kind with my talkative kiddos . . . My kids love this class and we now have a growing gallery wall of stunning art work 😊"
All classes will require art paper (sturdy, multimedia art paper is best but copy paper will also work), a pencil, an eraser, and a black marker/Sharpie. Students may use whatever they wish to add color their drawings, which may include crayons, colored pencils, alcohol markers (a personal favorite!), oil pastels, or watercolor paints.
Throughout the class, students will view photos of the landmarks we are studying, primary sources relating to them, where applicable (for instance, original letters regarding the construction of the Eiffel Tower), and whenever possible, beautiful artistic renditions of landmarks (properly cited). The literary sources used to create content for this class are as follows: "100 Landmarks of the World: A Journey to the Most Fascinating Landmarks Around the Globe" by Parragon Books "The Most Famous Landmarks in the World: History and Curiosities Explained for Children and Adults" by Samuel John
