Welcome! Who doesn't love learning about the world's most famous places....knowing what adults are talking about, knowing why these places are important and where they are, and being able to say that you've even drawn them for yourself?! If that sounds like something you (or your learner) would enjoy, this is the class for you! Each week, we will spotlight a famous world landmark. During the first part of class, I will share my screen with students as we look at the landmark and learn about its history, geographical location, and importance in the world (and some random fun facts!). Once we've learned about the landmark, learners and I will draw it step-by-step! My teaching style is warm, encouraging and lively and my goal is to nurture kids' natural love of learning and creating. This class is structured in 15 week blocks to fit into a classic homeschool curriculum, but is equally accessible to any learner who simply loves learning about geography, art, or both! Everyone has a different comfort level in group situations and that is perfectly fine.....this class is perfect for quiet learners and enthusiastic participants, alike. Landmarks and drawings are as follows: Week of September 4th: The Eiffel Tower Week of September 11th: The Taj Mahal and The Great Wall of China* Week of September 25th: Big Ben/Elizabeth Tower Week of October 2nd: The Great Pyramid of Giza Week of October 9th: The Golden Gate Bridge Week of October 16th: The Leaning Tower of Pisa Week of October 23rd: The White House Week of October 30th: Buckingham Palace Week of November 6th: The Colosseum Week of November 13th: The Statue of Liberty Week of November 20th: Stonehenge Week of November 27th: Mount Fuji Week of December 4th: The Sydney Opera House Week of December 11th: The Washington Monument *Two classes this week, to make up for missed class the week of September 20th.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to recognize and understand the importance of 15 of the most iconic world landmarks and gain valuable artistic skills that can be utilized both to underscore their geographical learning, but also in future artistic endeavors. The full term of this class could be a social studies, geography, or art unit in a homeschool, but is equally accessible to the student who wants to pop in and learn about and draw a specific landmark.
