Class Experience

Dungeons and Dragons is a collaborative role playing game in which players must work together, solve puzzles, and think critically. D&D requires some basic math skills, social interaction, and lots of imagination! This adventure is for players of any experience level. We will be starting at level 1, and advancing to level 11 throughout the course of this campaign.

The secretive organization known as the Golden Vault is legendary in the right circles, known for using their abilities for good, is looking for a new crew to handle delicate situations; are you up to the task? You'll work with a handler, who will bring you a job that requires a certain level of skill and discretion, but that's exactly your forte. And if you can handle this first job, there are certain to be more to follow!

As this is a D&D campaign, it is almost entirely learner driven. We will start the first session in a "session zero" style format, where we will all introduce ourselves, discuss the campaign itself, and create our characters using D&D Beyond. After that, we will hop right into the game, starting near the Murkmire, at the Varkenbluff Museum of Natural History. Each following session will be a continuation of the story, as players begin to make their way through each job, and through the Keys From the Golden Vault!

Note: As this is a cooperative experience, there will be no PvP (player vs player) content, and no evil characters.

This course requires a basic level of knowledge on how to play Dungeons and Dragons. We will play using a shared screen from my computer, using a platform called Roll20, which is a "virtual table top" website, used for playing D&D online. Each session will start with a recap from the previous session.

Parental Guidance
Dungeons and Dragons games vary widely on content, and can go from zero mature content to vastly mature. While running any games on Outschool, I will be staying far from all mature stuff. It does involve violence, as D&D is known for combat as well as role-playing, and sometimes I might describe a scene that would be fairly grotesque, but I will also adapt to the players, so if anyone is uncomfortable, I can easily tone that down. I have found that most players enjoy the more realistic descriptions, however. For gameplay purposes, I will be using a site called Roll20, and screen sharing so everyone can see the maps during any combats and other such encounters.
Supply List
While not entirely mandatory, I thoroughly recommend each learner (or in the case of siblings, each household) have a Player's Handbook for D&D 5th Edition. It will be invaluable for knowledge of the game. If learners would like to broaden their character customization options, they can also look into other source books from Wizards of the Coast (the makers of D&D), such as Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Volo's Guide to Monsters, and/or Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. These are far more optional.

I don't believe this is a sensitive or high risk topic, but I have been playing D&D for several years now, and have run several games.
