Homework
1 hour per week. I will upload a homework assignment each week into the classroom so students can practice what we've learned in class that week. I will not grade these assignments, but you are always welcome to submit a copy to me or in the classroom if you have questions, need help, or would like comments on your student's work. I'm always available to answer any questions about the classes. Homework time will vary according to each student's ability but should take about 15-30 minutes to complete.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
⭐️Teaching kids to expand their sentences is one of the first steps in helping them move toward interesting 🧐 and informative 🤓 content. In this class we will learn how to go from basic sentences, like "Children swim" to much more content rich sentences, like "During the hot afternoon, several excited children splash happily in the refreshing pool with their friends" in just five weeks.

➡️Before enrolling in this class, students should be able to write ✍🏻 a short sentence. It is also helpful if they are familiar with the parts of speech since we will reference them in class with very little explanation. If your child needs to learn the parts of speech or needs a refresher course, you can check out my ⛰⛰Smoky Mountains Grammar classes first.

I use google slides to teach my classes, so students will see all lessons on the screen and be able to interact 🙋🏾🙋🏻‍♀️ easily in the classroom.

The five sections included in this course are:

1️⃣ Adding Adjectives
2️⃣ Vibrant Verbs
3️⃣ Add Awesome Adverbs
4️⃣ Add Information With Prepositional Phrases
5️⃣ Putting All the Pieces Together 🧩🧩

⬆️I will upload a homework assignment each week into the classroom so students can practice what we've learned in class that week. I will not grade these assignments, but you are always welcome to submit a copy to me in the classroom if you have questions ❓, need help, or would like comments 📣 on your student's work. I'm always available to answer any questions about the classes.

🎺🎺IMPORTANT NOTE: If you prefer a different class time than what I have offered, please submit a request for a new section. I teach Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. EST - 5:00 p.m. EST. I will be happy to consider your request for a new class section.

✍🏻✍🏻As a college journalism major, I've always enjoyed writing, both the physical act of holding a pen in hand and the creative aspect of turning thoughts into interesting, expressive sentences. I hope to pass along the joy of writing as well as the mechanics to all of my students. 😃😃

Bachelor's Degree from Texas A&M University
Howdy from East Tennessee! I’m Shelley Greaney, and I love teaching on Outschool. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University, majoring in journalism with a minor in English. I'm a mother of six, grandmother of five, and I home schooled all of my children for a total of 26 years. I began teaching online five years ago as an ESL teacher and then started nutrition and grammar classes on Outschool. I also taught as a volunteer for elementary-aged children for ten years.

As a true grammar nerd, I offer foundational grammar classes for grades one, two, and three. The Great Grammar Adventure, a 29-week ongoing class, covers over a semester’s worth of grammar topics with two writing units, as well. I'm always looking for ways to make grammar more interesting for students.

I also teach First Grade Curriculum for K-1st graders. This class meets three times per week and covers a variety of topics including phonics, math, language arts, telling time on an analog clock, reading a calendar, social skills, and so much more. Students enjoy a new theme every week, worksheets to reinforce what we learn in class, and Show & Tell at the end of every class.

I believe learning should always be engaging, fun, and practical, and I work very hard to make sure each student, regardless of level, feels successful in class. I incorporate fun-themed slides, open-ended questions, scaffolding, and discussion to keep kids interested and engaged in class. I believe in letting kids share and participate in class, while maintaining an organized learning atmosphere. Lots of smiles and laughter are welcome in my classroom every day. I hope to see your child in my zoom room sometime soon.
