Creating Gods and Heroes: An RPG Character Workshop
In this workshop, we'll create a set of our very own gods, and then create individual RPG characters: epic heroes on a quest through the underworld. We'll discuss creating rich characters and collaborative worlds, and some epic mythology.

Beginner - Advanced Level
All levels of experience are welcome in this one-time class! We'll be learning how to make RPG characters, with a focus on epic heroes and their stories, and what it means to tell a story *together*, in a world we all make up and share. We'll be using the RPG Katabasis Gang, which is all about a group of epic heroes who have to visit the underworld on a quest, and then find a way to return. For the first part of the hour, we'll create gods together by picking what each god cares about and what they want from their worshipers. We'll all take turns picking different characteristics of the gods, and by the time we're done, we'll have the start of a shared world that our new gods rule over. Then, we'll move onto creating individual characters. We'll talk about how our characters in context: how they relate to the gods they've just created, the epic story they're all part of, and mythological characters they might be similar to. But we'll also talk about our individual characters in depth. What do they care about, how do they make sense of the world around them, what's difficult for them, what stuff do they carry around and use, and so on. How do we move from a set of options on a page to a full person who comes alive at the game table? After this one-hour workshop, learners can sign up for a game campaign with their characters and gods, if they so choose.
