In this class we will go in depth into the art of character creation. Using improv and writing techniques we will explore the many ways to create a rich, complex character with a detailed backstory so you can have the best experience in the genre you want to use it in. Details are important if you want your character to come fully alive and have the strongest impact. Often people think of characters as a silly voice or a physical quirk. If you really want your characters to shine you must go deeper exploring the many details about them to make a character feel real to the person playing it and to those engaging with the character. My teaching style is fun, supportive and interactive. Sometimes students will be working together at the same time, and sometimes one on one with me. I will take questions after each sequence. Everyone will get multiple chances to work and get direction in every class. I'M OFFERING $5 OFF YOUR FIRST CLASS USING THIS CODE: RIVKICHARACTER5. Week 1: We start by discussing character ideas or characters we've already been working on. We then will do some improv as these characters to start developing them. I will give everyone writing prompts to answer detailed questions about their characters. We will then have another round of improving as our characters but this time using their backstory and details we've been working on. Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a professional voice over actor in Hollywood for the last 6 years and a professional actor for 20. I am currently working on the animated show "Big Nate" for Nickelodeon as Mr. Galvin the science teacher. The series is based on the book series Big Nate. I also play various characters on the show "We Baby Bears" on The Cartoon Network, and The Rooster on "Kung-Fu Panda: Paws of Destiny" on Amazon Prime. I love working with kids, and got my start teaching at my daughter's elementary school where I taught improv. I then started teaching improv to a group of home schooled kids with learning differences, as well as at a school for gifted kids. I've worked with kids as young as 5 all the way to 18 years old. I'm now excited to teach kids how to voice over act based on my professional experience so they can learn how it's really done!
