Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
In this class on writing backstories for RPG characters, you will learn how to create compelling and well-developed backstories for your role-playing game characters.

The first part of the class will focus on the importance of backstory in RPGs, and how a strong backstory can enrich your character and enhance your overall gaming experience. You will learn about the different elements that make up a good backstory, including character motivation, personality traits, and personal history.

Next, you will learn about different techniques for brainstorming and developing your character's backstory. This will include exercises to help you identify your character's goals, fears, and desires, as well as techniques for fleshing out their personality and backstory.

The class will also cover some common pitfalls to avoid when creating backstories, such as creating overly complicated or unrealistic characters, and how to avoid stereotypes and cliches.

Bring a sample of your background and there will be the opportunity to receive feedback and critiques from the instructor and your peers, and learn how to incorporate feedback into your writing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been playing RPG since the 80s and it has been a big part of my life. It has also influenced my writing as a fantasy author. The information that I share is part of the process I use to create characters in my award-winning book series- Secrets of the Twilight Djinn.
