Course Description: In this one-time, self-paced course, students will learn how to customize and program an interactive greeting card by remixing a pre-made Scratch project created by the teacher! This approach allows students to focus on creativity and programming without starting from scratch (pun intended). Students will explore basic coding concepts such as motion, event triggers, and sound, to bring the card to life with their unique personal touches. Perfect for beginners, this course empowers students to make a fun, shareable card for any occasion while building foundational coding skills. Course Format: This is a one-time, asynchronous course featuring pre-recorded video lessons, guided activities, and self-paced assignments. Students will remix a pre-made Scratch project provided by the teacher. Course Content: Module 1: Introduction to Scratch and the Greeting Card Project Overview of Scratch and the remixing process. Accessing the teacher’s pre-made Scratch project. Introduction to sprites, costumes, and backdrops already in the project. Module 2: Personalizing the Greeting Card Customizing the existing sprites (characters or objects). Editing text to create a personalized message. Adjusting the backdrop for a unique touch. Module 3: Adding Animations and Interactivity Using motion and looks blocks to animate sprites. Programming event blocks to trigger actions (e.g., sprite interactions). Adding your own creative touches with simple coding. Module 4: Adding Sound and Finalizing the Project Choosing and adding sound effects or music. Testing and debugging the project. Saving and sharing the greeting card with others. Materials Needed: A free Scratch account (students can sign up at scratch.mit.edu).
