Does your child like comic books or graphic novels? Have they shown an interest in drawing? Maybe they enjoy telling stories, but don’t care much for writing. This class can help embrace those interests while showing them how to tell a story using pictures and dialogue. Using easy to follow step-by-step instructions (With visuals), students will combine basic story elements (e.g. setting, plot), character development, point of view (using pronouns), simple graphics, sequencing and onomatopoeias, to draft and create a unique piece of literary art. The lesson will be interactive using engaging PowerPoint slides to introduce students to the concepts being taught. Students will then create an outline of their strip, get positive feedback from each other, review and revise, then create a final comic strip! All students will have multiple opportunities to interact with me and each other to share their ideas and questions to develop their thinking throughout. Learners will be provided a variety of printable templates to use just prior to class. If no printer is available, these are easily recreated with a pencil and a ruler, or they can create their own! Additional classes are available for more comprehensive comic development including the use of narrative language, problem & solution, adjectives, verbs, character expression and movement.
