Class Experience

In this one hour class we will begin by designing a logo or graphic for a YouTube video using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop (if they'd prefer) and then learn how to animate their logo with music or sound effects. For this we will use Adobe After Effects. I will briefly show how to make simple animations inside of Adobe Illustrator as well but this will not be the main focus.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE?
By the end of the hour the learner should know how to:
1. Design a simple logo in Illustrator.
2. Use proper workflow techniques to go from Illustrator to After Effects efficiently.
3. Apply a variety of animations to our graphics.
4. Apply similar animation effects to text.
5. Add music or sound effects to the now animated logo.
6. And lastly how to turn the After Effects file into a usable video file using Adobe Media Encoder.

CLASS STYLE? The class will be very hands on. My hope is that each student will be able to work along with me as I demonstrate different techniques and each learner will be able to have a completed logo by the end of the class. We will cover each of the learning objectives listed above, in order to help them develop good design habits and workflow.

INTERATION? As long as it is not a distraction to other learners, I welcome interaction and questions either through the microphone or the chat option in the Zoom controls. The plan is for this to be a comfortable learning space and I want my student to feel comfortable sharing their ideas and their progress with me and the rest of the class if they'd like. There will be time's that I will be introducing new topics, otherwise I encourage their interaction.

SOFTWARE AND PRIOR SKILLS? As mentioned above we will be using Adobe software products. I will be using the Creative Cloud products which include the latest updates. A basic familiarity with the software would be nice but not necessary, as long as they can follow along as I demonstrate, they should be fine.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I'd like to start off talking about my feelings... on education. I've taught in a traditional school and had the joy of grading assignments and tests, failing students lost in the system, lost in their coursework, or just lost. As much as I enjoyed teaching, it formed my view of how education needs to be. Toss out the grades and the pass/fail mentality. I signed up to TEACH your child something, not to throw work at them and hope it sticks, then test them and watch them struggle. I'm only successful if my student is successful. That is how I plan to teach your child. Let's learn by doing something fun together and by watching their response, I will know I've done my job.

CLASSES? I'm a creative person, nerd and geek. I'm also (or, obviously) an engineer. So you can expect a variety of creative classes and even some science and STEM related classes down the road. Look for my CREATIVE WRITING courses available now. Future courses may include writing music for video games, music production, creating animated logos for YouTube, and perhaps a weekly science experiment.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME. I come from an engineering background and have worked for one well known heavy equipment manufacturer as well as other smaller companies over the years. I've taught at the college level and through the college had the opportunity to work with younger learners on a regular basis through a program called Kid's College. More importantly, I've been married for about 20 years and have one teenage daughter, and four very unique cats. We recently moved to Florida, USA and have not missed the lack of snow at all. At the moment, I'm still enjoying seeing all the palm trees and strange new birds and the alligators sunning themselves.

Thank you for the opportunity to teach your child something new and wonderful.
