In this multi-day course, students will have the opportunity to review and apply math concepts as they become Zookeepers of their very own Zoo! Through this project based learning experience, students will work to plan, create, and run a zoo! This is an ENRICHMENT style class. While there will be short instruction of all concepts, as well as teacher and peer support during each step, students should have a strong sense of basic math skills before taking this course. 1. Students will be able to use addition and subtraction within 1000 to purchase animals for their zoo without going over a set budget. 2. Students will be able to create quadrilateral shapes for each animal exhibit that provides the animal with the space (area) required. 3. Students will be able to add and subtract with money to determine the total purchase prices of souvenirs and the change needed. 4. Students will be able to use a data set to graph popularity of animals exhibits and interpret the graph created to analyze the data.
I am a certified teacher with both my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Elementary Education Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Connecticut. I am currently a Third Grade teacher and have experiencing teaching these skills in both in person and online settings.
Students will be able to finish any unfinished steps between classes. Students will also be able to create final copies of their work if they wish to do so at home!
Students will be provided with all printable materials required. An additional notebook will be beneficial for students to use as they solve problems. All students will need a writing utensil and the printed materials each class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
