Students will have the knowledge to produce additional books on their own.Class Experience
Students will learn how to use the powerful tools available to them in Canva. By the end of class, they will learn how to write, design, and produce their own books. Whether they have an idea for a book or not, the lesson will open up new possibilites to what can be accomplished with a little guidance and determination. Upload your own artwork or use any of the unlimited graphics available to you in Canva. Even if you can't draw, this class will help you put a book together. The concepts you will learn in this class will help you create all kinds of books including photo books, picture books, poems, and other printed material. It's a great foundational class for publishing and design. *It should be noted the time it takes me to teach one child is about an hour. If there are 3 or more students, expect the class to run about 90 minutes. We'll go through the entire process from conception to finished piece. I'll instruct you on the finer points of outlining your story, graphic design, how to layout your book, and how to tap the vast resources available to you. • In the first 15 minutes, we will JUMP RIGHT IN and learn the basics of Canva. • Students will learn quick and easy ways to write using Canva's own AI (artificial intelligence) • Students will learn how to resource FREE artwork in Canva and third-party free photo and illustration sites. • The next 15 minutes we will talk about our books and how we can make them better using all of the tools of Canva • We'll briefly talk about publishing and distribution on Amazon and then wrap up the class. (parents need to be involved during this process after class if the student wishes to publish their books on Amazon). Benefits for the student: Design, Composition, Appreciating Fonts, Book Production, Artwork, Story Outlines, Story Ideas, and Patience. Creativity is a big part of this class! Finally, I'll show you three books which I recently published using entirely in Canva and it only took me less than a week!
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to write, layout, design, and prepare a file to submit a book to Amazon. However, we will not access Amazon or KDP in this class. We will go step-by-step and every student will learn the process from a published author and illustrator (21 books to date).
Other Details
Parental Guidance
I will show how to eventually publish on Amazon, however at no time will your student be asked to go to that site. Information will be presented via PDF and online slides.
Supply List
In addition to having an account in Canva, we will briefly use a database software app such as Google Sheets, or equivalent. Although recommended, it's not necessary.
