Students will have fun in this engaging and interactive class as they create and develop their own comic strips! Day 1- Students will share their favorite comics and why they find them interesting. We will look at different styles of comics, such as Peanuts, Marvel, DC Universe, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and others. We will compare and contrast the different elements of these comics and how they spark their imagination. We will discuss the protagonist and antagonist in the comic strips that are shared. Students will develop and design their own comic book characters using a comic strip panel. Who will be the main character/protagonist? Who are the supporting characters? Who will be the antagonist? Will their comic creation be humorous? Will their comic strip be serious? Adventurous? Day 2- Students will share the characters they created with the class. We will discuss how to create a setting for their characters, as well as a beginning, middle, and end for their comic strip story. Students will also share the problem and solution in their comics. Students will begin to draw and develop their comic strip story panels. Day 3- Students will continue to develop and add details to their comic strip story, paying attention to the dialogue between the characters. Students will be encouraged to add props and other elements to their comic strip stories. Students will have time to share their creations with the class.

Learning and teaching are two of my favorite things! My passion is to teach meaningful lessons that are engaging, interactive, and fun. I have been a professional educator since 1997. I have taught K-8th grades in the public school setting, after-school tutoring, homeschool co-ops, private school, online teaching, and as the role of principal of a private school. So far, the highlight of my educational career has been homeschooling my own four children for eight years (they are now young adults). I understand that each child has a unique way of learning and growing in their cognitive thinking and creativity. I have a great deal of experience teaching reading, language arts, math, social studies/history, science, art, life skills, beginning Spanish, cooking, healthy choices and character development, and leadership skills. I look forward to the opportunity of having you in class soon!
