In this course, high school students will learn the essential skills for conducting research, organizing their findings, and presenting their work in MLA format. The course will cover using Google Scholar, organizing research materials, MLA formatting, and properly using parenthetical citations to avoid plagiarism. Each week includes a mix of video lecture instruction, hands-on practice, and interactive activities to reinforce learning. There are also templates provided to assist students with proper formatting, as well as handouts that are available for download.

Introduction to Research and Google Scholar
Learn how to access, search, and evaluate credible sources using Google Scholar, and begin organizing your research materials.
Assignment:
1) Using the provided Research Simulation Worksheet, use Google Scholar to complete a search for a particular topic.
Lesson 2:
Strategies for Organizing Research
Discover effective methods for organizing research notes, creating a research plan, and managing your time efficiently throughout the research process.
Assignments:
1) Students will provide a screenshot of their fully set up digital notebook in Microsoft OneNote.
2) Using a provided worksheet, students will create a sample research plan.
Lesson 3:
MLA Formatting
Understand the essentials of MLA formatting, including setting up the first page, using in-text citations, and creating a Works Cited page.
Assignments:
1) Students will edit a provided file to format a paper to full MLA style.
2) Students will create an in-text and full MLA citation for a source given information.
Lesson 4:
Avoiding Plagiarism
Understand how to summarize and paraphrase sources, and learn other strategies to avoid plagiarism in your academic work.
Assignments:
1) Using a provided worksheet, students will practice summarizing and paraphrasing.
2) Using a provided worksheet, students will read scenarios to determine if plagiarism occurred.
3) Students will complete a reflection and self-assessment.
