Class Experience

In this flexible schedule class (no live meetings), students will learn how to create four special things for their rodent friends. Have you ever wanted to create your own rodent toys? Baked treats? How about a photoshoot scene for your rodent pet to star in? An epic maze or obstacle course!? Look no further, this class is your ticket!

Week One: Boredom Buster DIY Toys
Students will learn how to make several boredom buster toys for their rodents, using everyday materials from the recycling bin!
Week Two: Baked Treats Time!
Students will learn how to make special cupcakes, chew sticks, and other yummy baked pastries.
Week Three: Photoshoot Scenes
Students will create their own photoshoot scene for their furry little pets (think beach scene or winter wonderland)
Week Four: Epic Creation... Maze or Obstacle Course!
Students will learn how to create a maze and/or obstacle course for their rodents to exercise and hang out in.

This class will have no live meetings because it is a flexible schedule class. This means each week, your student will be engaged with videos on how to complete portions of the creations, as well as interactive videos on Kahoot. Students will also utilize the classroom functions to upload videos and/or photos of their creations. Students will also be invited to use FlipGrid to make their own short videos that can be shared with their classmates. They can add filters, emojis and text to these videos for extra fun. The teacher will also provide printable resources so students can have written instruction, as well. The teacher and students will communicate through the Outschool posts or through messenger to make sure everyone is successful!

As a teacher, I am very energetic and passionate about teaching and all things rodent! I'm always happy to chat if you run into any specific issues or concerns throughout your time in this engaging flex class.

Students should feel comfortable using a hot glue gun, scissors, and other crafting materials. Students should also be able to use the oven or have help doing so. This class is very involved - which is why it's so much fun! If you're wondering if a flexible schedule format is right for your learner, please feel free to contact me so we can find the right accommodations for your child to have fun and be successful!

Texas Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello there! My name is Meri Sue Michalak, or Ms. M, and I teach classes with the intention of developing life-long, confident and independent learners. Whether that be through my fun social clubs, writing courses or private tutoring, the goal is to give students the tools they need to succeed in being their absolute BEST self. I believe that at the root of teaching is not just about presenting curriculum or hitting learning goals; it's developing a child as a whole. You will find that I am extremely personable and engaging with all of my students. I believe that every child deserves an equitable learning experience so I always take care in developing courses that serve all learning styles. I have 10+ years of experience in the childcare and education field. From Preschool Music Teacher, After-School Care Site Director to Private Elementary Tutor, I have a well-rounded professional background. I also have a Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, EC-8 and I hold a Teaching Certificate for EC-8th grade. One of my favorite things about working in this field are the relationships I've built with families and kiddos. Many of my students are ones I've known for years and watched grow into themselves.

You can find me in Austin, Texas (keepin' it weird!) with my husband MJ, preschooler Maxine, and two doggies Luke and Willie. I love cooking, baking (and tending to my sourdough!), writing, reading, watching a good TV series and spending time with friends & family.

I hope to meet you soon! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. I love to chat with families about their specific needs so I can accommodate to the best of my ability.
