What's included

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST),- -I will email each student a link that weeks lecture. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account. -I will post to the classroom a list of 3-7 questions due the following Saturday. -There will also be a list of 2-5 research topics or projects, and each student will choose one that interests them. Answers for the research topics only have to be a paragraph or two. This is also due Saturday of each week. Homework can either be sent through the communication function of Outschool (email) or posted on the classroom page. Each project is be written clearly and with any references noted. (No cut and paste)

Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Welcome to women in History! During each of these classes we will explore a brief biography of different women in history, their life, the society and culture that shaped them, and what contributions they made in their field. We will discuss how their lives would be different if they had been born in different times and cultures and what shaped them into achieving their goals.

Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST),-
	 -I will email each student a link that weeks lecture. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account. 
	-I will post to the classroom a list of 3-7 questions due the following Saturday.

	- Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom.  
        -I will check in with each student 2-3 times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class.  
         - I will also post occasional conversation starters in the classroom to engage the students in conversations. Students are encouraged to chat with each other and to interact on the classroom platform. 
        - Each week, there will be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic. 
	-Please message me before the start of class if you have any questions.

Week 1 –  Carrie Chapman Catt – American suffrage leader
Week 2 –  Penelope Barker – activist during the American Revolution
Week 3 – Dolores Huerta – cofounder of the National Farmworkers Association
Week 4 – Florence Kelley – Social reformer for minimum wage, 8 hour work days, and children’s rights
Week 5 – Fannie Lou Hamer – American voting and women’s rights activist, leader in the civil rights movement
Week 6 –  Ruth Bader Ginsberg – Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the U.S.
Week 7 –  Margaret E. Knight – American inventor
Week 8 – Elsie Macgill – Canadian aeronautical engineer
Week 9 – Fe del Mundo – first woman admitted to Harvard Medical School
Week 10 – Mary Anning – English palaeontologist in the 1800’s
Week 11 – Euphemia Haynes – first African-American to earn PhD in mathematics
Week 12 –  Julia Morgan – American architect


This class is just a brief look into these amazing women. If you are intrigued and would like to learn more, please check out my other classes, Great Personalities from History. We will take 8 weeks to explore more in depth the lives and history surrounding each of these women individually.

Learning Goals

Students will examine the different lives, cultures, and time periods that these women lived. We will discuss the accomplishments they made and the impact that they had on the world.

Parental Guidance
In this class, there will be discussions of sexism, racism, and discrimination. All discussions will be at an age appropriate level. This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.
Supply List
Each week, a list of homework questions will be posted to the classroom page. There will also be a list of 2-5 research/project topics that the student will choose from for that week. Both of these are due on the Saturday of that week. Students will have to do research on their own time. I will be available for questions 24-7.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions.  I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.

I am also an Outschool ACE Educator, which means that I continually seek out ways to improve my teaching skills and knowledge, as well as the learner experience.
