In this one day course, students with a basic understanding of coin names and values will learn how to count various combinations of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters with the aid of the Money Counting Number Line!

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
We will use the book "Katie Kangaroo Learns to Count Money" to help us explore various combinations of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.  Ferdinand Fox will help us learn to use the Money Number Line!  A PDF of the number line and other needed printables will be sent to students prior to the class.  Students will have the opportunity to interact with the number line electronically and on paper.  They will use the drawing annotation tool to navigate the number line.  They will work with the teacher to practice and then demonstrate counting sets of coins with a total value up to one dollar.

Supply List
The teacher will provide a PDF of needed printable materials upon enrollment.  Participants should have them printed and ready for use prior to the beginning of class.  If copies of the book are desired, information on how to obtain them will be provided as well.

I wrote the book we will be using, "Katie Kangaroo Learns to Count Money" and I designed the Money Number Line.  I have used this method for teaching children how to count money in my second grade classroom for many years because it takes the confusion out of counting coins, especially counting quarters with dimes.
