Beginner Level
This class is designed for children 6-8 years of age (1st and 2nd grade students). This class uses the Montessori approach with younger students learning from older students and where older students learn by being the class leader. Students can start this ongoing course at any time. The course is run like separate one time classes, so feel free to join anytime. In total we will meet for 8 weeks. This class is for students who want to strengthen their math skills. We will meet twice per week in small groups. The small class size will ensure that students get the attention they need to master the basic math concepts. The class will focus on learning in a fun and interactive way using the Montessori approach. Cats are the theme of the class. Students will learn math by counting cats. I am the proud owner of 4 cats, maybe one of them will show up to class! Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. The Five Principles of the Montessori Method: Principle 1: Respect for the Child. Principle 2: The Absorbent Mind. Principle 3: Sensitive Periods. Principle 4: The Prepared Environment. Principle 5: Auto education.
