Students will improve their understanding of letters and sounds and how to incorporate this into reading! Children will develop foundational literacy skills. They will understand letter recognition, letter sounds and how to write each letter. They will be able to use these skills to read and write CVC words (Consonant vowel consonant). They will also be able to identify words that have the same beginning sounds as the letter of the week. We will also go over stories related to the letter of the week so children will be able to make real world connections with the letters they are learning. Students will improve their understanding of numbers by learning a new number each day. they will understand what the number looks like, how to count and how to write that specific number of the day. They will also be able to compare numbers, add, subtract and solve word problems. We will also go over place value by identifying the numbers collectively as the groups of ones and tens. By building these math and reading skills, your child will stay learning over the summer by actively engaging in this summer program!
Reading and math are one of my favorite subjects to teach because I have worked in the elementary school setting as a classroom teacher! I have my Early Childhood Degree, Masters in Special Education and my Reading Endorsement that gives me experience when teaching kiddos the fundamentals of reading and math!
